05/02/2020 to 09/03/2020 A SPLASH OF COLOUR PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

We are not alone in our ability to view the world in colour. Many species of birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians have superior colour vision. Yet our ability to be enchanted by colours which illuminate complex patterns, lines and shapes is probably a uniquely human quality. Of all our senses, perhaps our sight is the most precious. Through our colour vision we understand our world. It warns us of danger, makes objects quickly recognisable, and helps us to store and retrieve precious memories. From the earliest cave paintings we have learned to express our feelings and share our thoughts with each other through colour. Open 10am to 3pm.

10/02/2020 to 15/02/2020 THE LAST TEMPTATION OF BORIS JOHNSON
 THEATRE ROYAL, WINDSOR

The smash hit play that sold out its London run comes to Windsor as part of a UK tour. It was the dinner that changed history: the night in February 2016 when Boris Johnson decided to vote ‘leave’ and a nation’s future was sealed. Guests included the spirits of Prime Ministers past including Margaret Thatcher, Winston Churchill and Tony Blair as well as fellow MP Michael Gove, the journalist Sarah Vine, Marina Wheeler and Evgeny Lebedev. Fast forward to post-Brexit Britain, 2029. For reasons that may be fact and/or fiction at the time of the performance, Boris, no longer in power, roams the political wilderness. Unexpected events see him back in the spotlight and with a chance to make Britain great again.

23/02/2020 READING ANCIENT SCHOOLROOM

Experience the ancient world first-hand by attending a Roman school for a day (or an hour): learn to use wax tablets, papyrus rolls, reed pens, and ostraca while doing authentic ancient school exercises. All participants dress as Romans (we provide the costumes), and the event takes place in a replica of a Roman schoolroom. Ancient schools were mixed-age establishments, and our schoolroom replicates that by welcoming all school-aged children. (Adults are also welcome, playing the role of paedagogi.) The event is put on by the Classics Department at the University of Reading, as a way of sharing our research on ancient education with the wider community, and most of the volunteer teachers are staff and students from the department.

27/02/2020 READING FC FORMER PLAYERS - EVENING WITH STEVE COPPELL

Steve Coppell became a household name in his playing days. After beginning his career with Tranmere Rovers in 1973, he spent eight years with Manchester United where he made 322 appearances, scoring 53 goals. He went on to represent his country, playing for England 42 times over 6 years from 1977 and scoring 7 times. However, it was as a manager that Coppell will be instantly and fondly remembered by Reading fans. Steve could well be considered the most successful manager in the history of Reading Football Club. That is a dramatic statement, but well earnt after Steve took the Royals into the top tier of English football for the first time in club history in 2006. The Royals accumulated a record breaking 106 points in the process, ending the season with just two defeats. That record still stands to this day as no football league club manager has been able to repeat Coppell's remarkable feat. As a result, Coppell was voted manager of the season by the League Managers Association. Coppell received the award again the following season after guiding Reading to an unexpected eighth placed finish, the club's highest placing in their history, and narrowly missing out on European qualification. There are very few people with such an outstanding record as both a player and manager and he is sure to provide a fascinating insight to Reading fans on 27 February. This is a great opportunity to meet, and put your questions to, the man behind Reading's most successful spell of all time. The event seems certain to sell out, so please book early online on our events page. The evening will be hosted by former Royals defender, now BBC Berkshire sports presenter, Ady Williams.

12/03/2020 RHYS JAMES - SNITCH
NORDEN FARM CENTRE FOR THE ARTS, MAIDENHEAD

Mock The Week regular and star of his own BBC Radio 4 series, Rhys James heads out on his first national tour. In early 2019, Rhys was asked to go back to his school and inspire the Year 11s. Given that teenagers are a nightmare and there was no fee, he ghosted the teacher who had emailed. Bit of a shame really, given that he's figured out the true circle of life, has solved parenting despite having zero children, and even thinks he can predict the curriculum of schools in 50 years. Maybe he'll inspire some Year 11s in 2069.

14/03/2020 NOT THE ANDERSON TWINS - ALISTAIR ANDERSON vs IAN A ANDERSON
SOUTH HILL PARK ARTS CENTRE, BRACKNELL

Alistair Anderson and Ian A Anderson in a double header where 50 years of death-folk, blues, psych-folk, trad & world twang meets 50 years of up close and personal Northumbrian music. Each performs their own solo set before culminating in new collaborations between these two master musicians. Alistair Anderson is internationally acknowledged as the leading soloist on the English Concertina and a fine exponent of the Northumbrian Pipes. Ian A. Anderson – no, not that one! – began his solo musical career in the mid 1960s, heavily influenced by old country blues players, before taking a left-swerve in the early 70s into what nowadays gets called ‘psych folk’, with a trio of songwriter/guitarist albums for Bristol’s pioneering and now highly collectable independent label Village Thing.
