08/08/2019 to 28/09/2019 TOWARDS ZERO
 THE MILL AT SONNING

Summer is that time when the inimitable Brian Blessed visits Sonning to direct one of Agatha Christie's classic thrillers. The combination of Christie & Blessed has proved a winning formula for The Mill, helped by the special relationship that Brian had with the Queen of Crime. He met and worked with her when he was a young actor at Nottingham Repertory Theatre. Their friendly conversations informed Brian about how she would have liked to see her plays directed. She told Brian that Towards Zero was acclaimed by the novelist Robert Graves as by far her best and most dramatic novel, and in 1956, Gerald Verner adapted it into a play.

A cast of four deftly takes on Hitchcock classic The 39 Steps in this wonderfully inventive comic-thriller parody adaptation of John Buchan’s 1915 novel. The 39 Steps follows the incredible adventures of our handsome hero Richard Hannay, complete with stiff-upper-lip and British gung-ho spirit as he encounters dastardly murders, double-crossing secret agents, and devastatingly beautiful women. The show is a frantic farce, jampacked with slapstick humour, a barrage of accents and hat-swaps culminating in chaos and calamity. This wonderfully inventive and gripping comedy thriller features four fearless actors, playing 139 roles in 100 minutes of fast-paced fun, thrilling action and a colossal number of costume changes.

18/08/2019 ROYALS v CARDIFF CITY - SKY BET CHAMPIONSHIP

After a first-day home flop this season the Royals return to the Mad Stad with potentially an even tougher task than Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls eased to a slightly flattering 3-1 win but newly-relegated Cardiff look considerably stronger, especially with that old warhorse Neil warnock at the helm. He has crossed swords with Reading many times in the past and has frequently been a pain in the Royals' backside! It's also one of only three almost 'local derbies' so Cardiff will fill their end pf the Mad Stad. Royals will need to be at their Sunday best to avoid a second successive embarrassment.
