20/09/2018 to 27/10/2018 TRIAL BY LAUGHTER - AT THE WATERMILL THEATRE
THE WATERMILL - WEST BERKSHIRE PLAYHOUSE, NEWBURY

Following critical acclaim for The Wipers Times, Ian Hislop and Nick Newman return to The Watermill with the premiere of a new play inspired by extraordinary real-life events. William Hone, the forgotten hero of free speech, was a bookseller, publisher and satirist. In 1817, he stood trial for ‘impious blasphemy and seditious libel’. The only crime he had committed was to be funny. Worse than that he was funny by parodying religious texts. And worst of all, he was funny about the despotic government and the debauched monarchy. Along with his great ally, political cartoonist George Cruikshank, Hone sought vindication for his laughable offences and fought for freedom in one of the most remarkable legal cases of its time.

27/09/2018 to 17/11/2018 A NIGHT IN PROVENCE
 THE MILL AT SONNING

Ah Provence! Ah The French Riviera! Where optimistic holidaymakers rent luxury villas for exhorbitant sums in order to get their annual fix of sun, sea, and haute cuisine. However, imagine the crisis if one such sumptuous place was double booked. Worse - imagine it triple booked! By a French couple - Maurice and Yvette; an English couple - Fred and Judy; and begorrah, an Irish couple - Shaun & Moira. Marriages have floundered on less. Add the ingredients of copious amounts of sparkling champagne, heightened sexual attractions, to say nothing of deep-seated cultural differences, all this makes the current Brexit negotiations seem a snip!

02/10/2018 to 12/01/2019 PATRONS AND DONORS - READING'S ART AND HOW IT GOT HERE

In 1885 crowd-sourcing existed in Reading: 5000 people contributed to the cost of having a portrait of biscuit magnate William Isaac Palmer painted for the town. And remarkably in the 1970s Reading commissioned a modern set of Civic silver with the support of dozens of local businesses. When Palmer went on to bequeath his personal collection of contemporary Victorian art, he started the impressive art collection at Reading Museum and set a precedent for later generations of gifts from Reading people. Today the museum remains unusual as its art collection continues to grow through the support of Reading Foundation for Art, grant-giving bodies and many individuals. See familiar favourites and unexpected treasures, some with curious stories attached.

12/10/2018 TRIBUTE TO THE GOON SHOW
 THE HEXAGON THEATRE, READING

From the producers of the critically acclaimed 50th Anniversary Tour of Round the Horne comes another radio comedy classic live on stage. In 1951 the landscape of British comedy changed dramatically when The Goon Show burst onto the airwaves of the BBC Home Service. Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe and co. brought a brand of surreal chaotic humour, unlike anything that had been heard before and revolutionised the way radio comedy was produced. With its bizarre characters, fantastical plots and hilarious running jokes, The Goon Show captured the imagination of the British public and made household names of its three main stars, all of whom would go on to achieve fame across the globe. The show’s influence is still felt today with comedians like Eddie Izzard citing the show as a major influence.

15/10/2018 LEGENDARY FOLK ROCKERS STEELEYE SPAN - WITH PENTANGLES JACQUI McSHEE
 THE HEXAGON THEATRE, READING

Steeleye Span (led as ever by the iconic vocals of Maddy Prior and featuring their new seven-piece line up) play a special show in the company of one of their musical contemporaries - Pentangle's Jacqui McShee, a legend of folk and jazz music and a true innovator in both genres across a long career. Steeleye Span are fast approaching their 50th anniversary 2019, with a work rate to put many younger artists to shame. The bands’ eighth album in twelve years - 2016's Dodgy Bastards - saw them return to the folk tales and characters that have always been at the heart of the Steeleye sound. Dodgy Bastards saw the folk-rock pioneers continue drawing stories of murder, religion, incest, skulls, honour killings and tormented spirit. They once more create an inspired and dark take on the music of the British Isles. Steeleye Span are an English Folk Rock band formed in 1969. Still active today, along with Fairport Convention they are amongst the best known acts of the British Folk Revival and are among the most commercially successful.

17/10/2018 to 20/10/2018 SINODUN PLAYERS PRESENT AGATHA CHRISTIE'S A MURDER IS ANNOUNCED
 WALLINGFORD CORN EXCHANGE

There’s great excitement and mystery at Wallingford’s Corn Exchange this autumn as the resident company Sinodun Players prepares to celebrate its 70th Anniversary and 40 years in the Corn Exchange by putting on Agatha Christie’s “A Murder is Announced” adapted by Leslie Darbon – a Miss Marple mystery – from Wednesday 17 October to Saturday 20 October. This is Christie, the Queen of Crime, at her best. An announcement in the local paper states the time and place where a murder is to occur. The interesting thing is that the victim is a stranger and not one of the many people who visit Miss Blacklock regularly or live in the house. What follows is classic Christie - a puzzle of concealed identities mixed motives and many lies. A second murder provides Miss Marple and the police with an interesting and dangerous case. Throughout 2018 Whole Lotta Led will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the birth of Led Zeppelin with a show that will include songs from all of their studio albums, ranging from their beautiful acoustic songs to the huge anthems we have come to know and love.

So unlike the last home game, where Irish ran in 12 tries against Yorkshire Carnegie, this one will have a much more competitive edge.
