07/06/2018 to 28/07/2018 AGATHA CHRISTIE'S THE UNEXPECTED GUEST
 THE MILL AT SONNING

This intriguing 'whodunnit' twists and turns towards an edge-of-your-seat climax, leaving you guessing right until the last chilling moment! When a stranger runs his car into a ditch, on a dark and foggy evening, he makes his way to an isolated house where he discovers a woman standing over the dead body of her wheelchair-bound husband, a smoking gun in her hand. What's more, she admits to murder. Then, surprisingly, the unexpected guest offers to help her concoct an alibi. But is it possible that Laura Warwick did not commit the murder after all? If so, who is she shielding? The house seems full of possible suspects...

02/07/2018 to 25/08/2018 EXHIBITION AND SALE OF HANDMADE ORIGINAL PRINTS - AT THE RBH

A wide variety of printmaking techniques, both traditional and more contemporary, have been used in these HANDMADE ORIGINAL PRINTS by artist-printmakers belonging to PRINT AT THE PARK. The works are as varied as the interests of the artists themselves, both in style and subject matter, ranging from urban and rural landscapes, the human figure and other living creatures, plant life and more abstract compositions. Many have distinctly 'summery' qualities. There are over 40 works. Prices range from £45 to £150, remarkably low for work of such quality. The more that are sold; the more widespread the benefits: as 25% of all sale proceeds are contributed to the hospital's Voluntary Services.

The Goring Gap Players and the Basildonians are presenting a joint open-air production of ‘The Rivals’ by Sheridan, directed by Barry Steele – in the beautiful grounds of Little Bowden (near Pangbourne). This follows the very successful 2014 production of Midsummer Night’s Dream in the same gardens. Lovers of this most popular of Sheridan’s comedies will delight again in the well-known characters of Mrs Malaprop (with her wrong words) and Sir Lucius O’Trigger (the wild Irish Baronet), also the deceptions and love-tangles of Jack Absolute and Lydia Languish - and their young friends - all as set in Bath, the then racy holiday destination of the late 1700s.

11/07/2018 to 21/07/2018 READING OPEN AIR SHAKESPEARE - MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
 PROGRESS THEATRE, READING

Enjoy an open-air production.of this great Shakespearean comedy - although with a touch of darkness. Much Ado About Nothing follows the return of soldiers from war. Packed with intrigue, double-crossing and plenty of laughter, Much Ado About Nothing is the perfect introduction to Shakespeare. Following the turbulent romances between Hero and Claudio and Beatrice and Benedict, this exploration of what loyalty, chivalry, and true love really mean empowers us to challenge our perceptions of relationships. Our production moves the story from Italy to an English house at the conclusion of World War Two. It will be using the story of the lovers to explore the nature of the relationship between men and women as well as exploring themes of jealousy and class. Leonato welcomes his friends back from war. His daughter, Hero, is in love with Claudio. His niece, Beatrice, verbally spars with Benedict. Can their friends conspire to bring them together? Will ill-intentioned Don John succeed in driving Claudio and Hero apart? Can Leonatos's sister, Antonia, come up with a plan to save the day? Can the watchmen overcome their incompetence to bring out the truth?

Like Orpheus in the Underworld, this rarely performed operetta is an irreverent and hilarious take on Greek mythology and the scurrilous goings-on that led to the Trojan wars. 20/07/2018 to 28/07/2018 SOAP OPERA PARODY - THE INHERITANCE, BY EVA MARCHETTI
 SOUTH STREET ARTS CENTRE, READING

Soap-opera parody set in Seville, Spain. An old rich man, on his death bed, confesses the existence of an illegitimate daughter to his son - Rafael - and gives him detailed conditions under which she would be allowed to receive her share of the wealthy inheritance. Rafael, not exactly a brilliant mind (as many main characters), is accompanied in this task by the typical villain (Don Felipe) and the typical hero (Don Julio). When the daughter arrives, her pragmatism immediately clashes with the three stereotyped gentlemen.

02/08/2018 to 22/09/2018 TEN TIMES TABLE - BY ALAN AYCKBOURN
 THE MILL AT SONNING

Long due a revival, TEN TIMES TABLE is a play so funny that it displays playwright Alan Ayckbourn at the top of his game. Alan is a genius at analysing ordinary people in everyday situations. We follow the planning and disastrous outcome of a group of members of The Pendon community as they plan their small town's first pageant. The pageant is to be based on a long lost piece of local history - The Massacre of the Pendon Twelve - where the Earl of Dorset crushed an uprising of rebellious workers. As the meetings in the run down Swan Hotel progress, we see a natural divison between right-wing supporters of the patronising middle-class Helen, versus the bolshie left-wing teacher Tim and his two adoring female groupies. All have very different views of what the pageant should be and what it represents. Battle commences. The day of the pageant arrives. And what was a mock-up of the event now becomes the real thing as both sides clash with hilarious and riotous results!
